16 Teams Ready to Compete in Pontianak Lion Dance; Most Championships Followed by Foreign Countries

16 teams from representatives of eight countries will compete in the Pontianak Lion Dance Championship 2019 international championship in Perbasi Pontianak Hall 21-23 June 2019. The first international agenda in West Kalimantan is the largest tournament followed by representatives from other countries.

"The eight countries are Australia, China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Myanmar, Vietnam, Singapore and Indonesia," said Committee Chair Bong Bie Chiung, during a pre-press conference held on Wednesday (6/19).

He said, this was the first international lion agenda in West Kalimantan. The implementation of this activity is the initiation of the Indonesian Lion Dance Federation (FOBI) West Kalimantan.

"We have seen the implementation elsewhere. FOBI West Kalimantan has not been two years, the chairman wants us to be able to follow other regions. Although for the first time, there are already eight countries, more are expected in the future," he said.

The committee targets the audience to meet the capacity of 1,500 people.

Hopefully the event runs as expected. The point is he wants to lift West Kalimantan in the eyes of the international. If Singkawang is already famous for Cap Go Meh, Pontianak will be known as the lion dance championship.

In the same place, the central PB FOBI representative, Arifin said that in principle PB FOBI strongly supports this international event. Since its establishment, it has more than five times organized international championships.

"This is an extraordinary moment, Indonesia is able to organize by involving eight countries," he said.

IDLDF's Vice President Leong Lik Thong added that this event was one of the important international agendas. Where all people who have the same passion, gather. He believes the judges will act objectively.

"I hope the festival will be a success and bring development to the regeneration and progress of the federation," he concluded.

For information for people who want to watch this international event, they can buy tickets at a price of Rp. 75 thousand or Rp. 200 thousand for a three-day canal.
