First Gold Medal For Indonesia in ASIAN GAMES 2018

Jakarta. Indonesian taekwondo athlete Defia Rosmaniar won the first gold medal for Indonesia in ASIAN GAMES 2018 held in Jakarta today (19/8). Defia won the Gold medal after defeating Iranian athletes.

Defia Rosmaniar (23 years old) from Bogor showed her best performance during fighting with the Iranian athletes on Taekwondo women's singles number that attracted attention.

Defia immediately ran towards the coach and hugged him. After that he performed a victory lap carrying the Red and White flag and headed to the tribune where President Jokowi sat.

Defia Rosmaniar felt mixed after winning the 2018 Asian Games gold from the taekwondo branch of individual women's poomsae numbers on Sunday (8/19) afternoon.

The 23-year-old athlete became the first gold contributor for Indonesia at the 2018 Asian Games as well as the first gold of taekwondo sports during Indonesia's participation at the Asian Games.

Besides being proud and happy to be the best in Asia, Defia immediately had to remember the parents who supported her to become taekwondoin.  "I offer this gold to my family, to my father," Defia said briefly. "It's okay, I'll cry," he continued when asked why he presented a medal specifically for his father.

1,5 Billion Rupiah Bonus
Menpora Imam Nahrawi appreciated the success of Defia Rosmaniar in taekwondo individual female poomsae at the 2018 Asian Games. Imam Nahrawi  hoped that the success would continue to other Indonesian athletes.

Defia won with 8,690 points over 
Iranian athlete Marjan who collected 8,470. Defia  won the very first gold medal for Indonesia. After the match, Menpora was optimistic that the atmosphere of the Indonesian contingent was increasingly positive.

Menpora Imam Nahrawi expressed his gratitude for the support of the Indonesian people who pray for our athletes at this Asian Games. Youth and Sports Minister Imam Nahrawi said athletes who won the gold medal at the 2018 Asian Games will be provided with a bonus of Rp1.5 billion.

"The bonus of a gold medalist of that size is the highest in the history of the Asian Games," he said

With the gold medal, he said, athletes will get the biggest bonus. With the big bonus, the athletes are expected to be encouraged to excel in the nation's name. The achievement targets at the 2018 Asian Games, Nahrawi said, were targeting the top ten.

At the 2018 Asian Games held in Jakarta and Palembang, which will be held on 18 August to 2 September 2018, 45 countries will be participated and will compete with 463 event numbers from 40 sports.
